1. Our Commitment
Emergency Repair Plumbers is committed to ensuring that our website — emergencyrepairplumbers.com — and the plumbing services we provide are accessible to all Ontarians, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to information and emergency plumbing assistance, regardless of their abilities or the assistive technologies they use.
We are committed to meeting the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), including the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR). Our efforts align with the Information and Communications Standards, which require organisations to make their web content accessible.
Our accessibility commitment extends beyond our website to our service delivery. We strive to ensure that every customer — regardless of disability — can reach us in an emergency, book a service, and receive our plumbing services with dignity and without barriers.
2. Standards We Target
Our website is designed and developed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the standard referenced by Ontario's AODA legislation for web accessibility compliance and represents a high level of accessibility for most users with disabilities.
Specific accessibility features implemented on this website include:
- Semantic HTML structure — We use appropriate HTML5 landmark elements (
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<footer>,<section>) to provide clear document structure and regions that assistive technologies can navigate. - ARIA roles and attributes — Where HTML semantics alone are insufficient, we implement ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) landmark roles, labels, and live region attributes to improve the experience for screen reader users.
- Keyboard navigation support — All interactive elements on the website — including links, buttons, form fields, and navigation menus — are fully operable using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse or touch input.
- Skip-to-content link — A "Skip to main content" link is present at the top of every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass repeated navigation and go directly to the main page content. This link is visible on keyboard focus.
- Descriptive link text and aria-labels — Links and buttons use descriptive text or
aria-labelattributes that convey the purpose of the action, avoiding generic text such as "click here." - Alt text for images — All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes (
alt="") so screen readers ignore them. - Logical heading hierarchy — Pages use a logical, sequential heading structure (H1, H2, H3) to allow screen reader users to navigate and understand the page structure quickly.
- Responsive design — The website is fully responsive and functions on all screen sizes and orientations, including magnified views for users with low vision.
3. Assistive Technology Support
This website has been tested with common assistive technologies to ensure compatibility. We aim to provide a good experience with the following:
- NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) — Free screen reader for Windows, tested with Firefox and Chrome
- JAWS (Job Access With Speech) — Professional screen reader for Windows, tested with Chrome and Edge
- VoiceOver — Built-in screen reader for Apple macOS and iOS, tested with Safari
- TalkBack — Built-in screen reader for Android, tested with Chrome
Colour Contrast
We have designed the website to meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum colour contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Our primary text on white backgrounds and our navy-on-white, red-on-white, and white-on-navy colour combinations have been tested and confirmed to meet this requirement.
Keyboard Navigation
The entire website can be navigated using a keyboard alone. The Tab key moves forward through interactive elements; Shift+Tab moves backward. Enter and Space activate buttons and links. The current keyboard focus is always clearly visible with a visible focus indicator styled to ensure sufficient contrast.
4. Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across the entire website, we are aware of the following current limitations:
- Third-party embedded maps — We embed Google Maps on our contact page to show our service area. The Google Maps iframe is a third-party component controlled by Google LLC, and its full accessibility is outside our direct control. Users who require an accessible alternative to the embedded map can contact us by phone or email for service area information.
- Third-party embedded videos — Any video content embedded from third-party platforms (such as YouTube) may not meet full WCAG 2.1 AA standards, as these players are controlled by external providers. We are working to provide text transcripts or alternative content descriptions alongside any third-party video embeds.
- PDF documents — Older PDF documents linked from this website may not be fully accessible. We are reviewing and updating PDF content to ensure tagged PDF accessibility. If you require an accessible version of any document, please contact us and we will provide the information in an alternative format.
We are actively working to address these limitations and will update this statement when improvements are made.
5. Requesting Accommodations
If you require information in an accessible format or need communication support to access our plumbing services, we are happy to help. We can provide information in alternative formats upon request, including:
- Large print documents
- Plain language summaries of technical documents or policies
- Information provided verbally by telephone
- Electronic formats compatible with screen readers
To request an accessible format or communication accommodation, please contact us at:

6. Feedback & Continuous Improvement
We welcome and value feedback about the accessibility of this website. If you encounter any accessibility barriers, experience difficulty using any part of the site, or have suggestions for improvement, please tell us. Your feedback directly informs our accessibility roadmap.
When providing feedback, it is helpful to include:
- The web page or section where you encountered the barrier
- The assistive technology and browser you were using, if applicable
- A brief description of the issue and what you were trying to do
We are committed to ongoing accessibility improvement and conduct an annual accessibility review of our website. This review includes testing key user journeys with assistive technologies, evaluating compliance with the latest WCAG guidelines, and updating this statement to reflect our current conformance status.
This accessibility statement will be reviewed and updated at minimum once per year, or sooner following significant website changes. The most recent review was completed in March 2026.
